How to Play Blackjack

Beat the dealer by getting a hand value closer to 21 without going over. You play against the dealer, not other players.

  • Place your bet
  • You and the dealer get two cards
  • Choose Hit, Stand, Double, or Split
  • Closest to 21 wins

Card Values

  • Number cards = face value (2–10)
  • Jack, Queen, King = 10
  • Ace = 1 or 11 (whichever is better)

When to Hit

Take another card when your hand is weak (8–11) or when the dealer shows a strong upcard (7–A) and you have 12–16.

When to Stand

Stand when you have 17 or higher, or when you have 12–16 and the dealer shows 2–6 (a weak upcard).

When to Double

Double down when you have 10 or 11 and the dealer shows 2–9. Also double on A,6 when the dealer shows 3–6.

When to Split

Always split Aces and 8s. Split 2s, 3s, 6s, 7s, and 9s depending on the dealer's upcard. Never split 10s or 5s.
